The Iberian and mediaeval site of l'Esquerda is situated in Catalonia, south of the Pyrenean mountains, 70 km north of Barcelona. The archaeological excavations give us a large chronological sequence, from the later Bronze Age (8th century BC) to 14th century AD.

During the excavation of 1998 a blacksmith's room was found and dug out in l'Esquerda. It can be dated as 13th century.

One of the most recent experiments in l'Esquerda Experimental Area is ironworking. After the identification of the mediaeval blacksmith's, we tried a new archaeological experiment, this time with metals and ironworking.
