The Lincolnshire Marsh, England: landscape reclamation and the salt industry

The marshlands of the Lincolnshire coast have been exploited for salt-production since the Late Bronze Age. During the early and later Medieval periods it appears that the salt industry was intrinsically linked with the reclamation, settlement and evolution of the region. This paper examines the various factors that influenced the development of this marginal zone.
