This paper will trace the histories of monastic implantation and domain development in the diocese of Soissons, with particular attention to the period of great monastic reform from c. 1050 to 1200. We will examine the impact on the landscape of the placement of monasteries in urban and rural settings, and the effect of their acquisition and trade of various properties.
