Northern Rus': Exploring Identity in Medieval Past

In the paper I shall examine various cultural phenomena connected with expression of ethnic, regional and religious identity in Medieval Rus', in particular in its northern part. To what
extent do the documentary sources and archaeological records which witness the existence of human groups with common identity (or are regarded as such) correspond to each other?
