Limits in Town Charters: Small Urban Centres in Sweden: How Small Could a Medieval Town Be?

The aim of this paper is to compare to what extent a town's formal status corresponded with its physical appearance at a given point in time. The study is based on three medieval Swedish towns: Strängnäs, Köping and Hedemora.
